Prague National monument on Vítkov will undergo reconstruction by the joint-stock company HOCHTIEF CZ

Press conference of the National museum, the investor of the project of reconstruction of the National monument on Vítkov in Prague, marked the beginning of its realization on Thursday June 7th. The contractor of the project has become the joint venture led by the construction company HOCHTIEF CZ. The second partner in the joint venture has become the company Gemma Art, taking care of the restoration works.

The joint-stock company HOCHTIEF CZ took the site over on May 22nd of this year, the finalization of works is planned in spring of 2009. According to the General Director of the National museum, PhDr. Michal Lukeš, the date of the ceremonious opening and start of the operation for the public is planned on October 28th, 2009.


As Mr. Ivan Havel, the Commercial Director of the joint-stock company HOCHTIEF CZ, said, the joint venture won the tender thanks to the offered price. For HOCHTIEF CZ the reconstruction of the National monument on Vítkov is an interesting contract where the ample experience of their employees can be shown – they participated in many important reconstructions of historic sights all over the Czech Republic.


After the reconstruction the existing construction will become a pleasant and open space for the wide public to familiarize themselves with our modern history through the latest museological methods, and thus to perceive the symbolism of the Monument in full context. The monument will also offer other cultural activities and services.
