Openning of the wharf Lannova loděnice

On 25th August 2010 there was a ceremony of opening of the wharf Lannova loděnice at the left bank of the Vltava river at the bridge Dlouhý most in České Budějovice.

The investor of the construction – Directorate of Waterways of the Czech Republic and the contractor – joint-stock company HOCHTIEF CZ with participation of representatives of the city and of the state officially opened with a ceremony the first of a number of piers that will provide to the passengers disabled access to ships. From now on, the tourists can travel by water to České Vrbné. Construction of the wharf is the first stage of the project to make the Vltava river navigable from České Budějovice to Prague.

The wharf Lannova loděnice is a unique 60-metre long floating pier that is attached to 6 steel piles anchored in the depth of 9 m under the riverbed. The total height of each of these piles is 17 m. Depending on the river level, the pier is raised or lowered on these piles so that it is always fit for the mooring of ships and can withstand even large floods.

Part of the project was also dredging of the riverbed to the depth of 1,6 m at the turning basin that makes it possible for ships that are up to 44 m long to turn there and it provides flood control as well.
