Vítkovice stadium ready to welcome world stars

At the end of the last week, HOCHTIEF CZ, which has been carrying out stage II of reconstruction works at the Vítkovice stadium, temporarily handed over the stadium into the hands of the investor. According to the agreed time schedule HOCHTIEF CZ had to undertake that the reconstruction would not interfere with this year´s Golden Spike taking place on 26 May 2015. The stadium is thus even before completion of the last stage of the reconstruction ready for new challenges to the word records. A sprinter Usain Bolt stated some time ago that he was looking forward to his seventh start at the Golden Spike and that a contest on a newly reconstructed stadium motivated him to achieve the best result.

“Due to the track and field competition, the time schedule of works is very tight and challenging as for the site logistics. Handover of the site to the investor still in the course of the construction and subsequent takeover by the building contractor is not usual. Nevertheless, by the right coordination of the individual works and engagement of our best production resources we have managed to fulfil the time commitments and to hand the stadium over to the investor in such a condition that makes it possible for the Golden Spike competition to take place without any problems,” mentioned the Project Team Manager of HOCHTIEF CZ Ing. Daniel Motyčka.

The second stage of repair of the Vítkovice stadium that is to be completed in September this year comprises roofs over the North and South stands arches, refurbishment of sanitary facilities, snack kiosks and press centre facilities. In the first stage, a brand new covered stand for more than five thousand seated spectators, innovated all-weather running track or entrance to the stadium were built. After the overall reconstruction, the stadium will have a capacity of 15 275 full sheltered seats including 40 places for disabled persons.

For several years now, the modern arena has been the venue of a world track and field competition, the Golden Spike, and from September 2015 it will have been prepared, among others, for football matches of both national and international nature. After the end of this year´s athletic competition the stadium will be handed over back to HOCHTIEF CZ to finish the remaining reconstruction works by September 2015.
