Tunnels and underground constructions

The company has professionally qualified staff with the relevant certifications for performance of underground constructions. HOCHTIEF CZ also has authorisation to perform mining activity in the sense of the regulations of the State Mining Administration of the Czech Republic.

Driven tunnels

The company uses entirely its own capacities for driving tunnels. During the period 2006 – 2009 the Traffic Infrastructure Division is implementing tunnel constructions on the Prague Ring Road, the “514” construction between Radotín and Lochkov. This is a motorway type tunnel with two separate tunnel tubes, each with a length of 1.6 kilometres. The three-lane ascending tunnel is designed with a transverse driven profile of 120 m2, the two-lane descending tunnel with a transverse driven profile of 100 m2. The tunnels are of a length of 1300 metres driven, a further 300 metres are implemented in an open construction pit. The Division realises all the main phases of the construction through its own capacities – driving the tunnel with primary lining and furnishing of a definitive reinforced concrete lining into a sliding formwork centering.

Cut and cover tunnels

The Traffic Infrastructure Division will use this technology on the Prague Ring Road – construction of Blanka tunnel, where it is implementing the section Prašný most – Špejchar. Commencement of works on the actual tunnels is envisaged in August this year, completion is planned for 2011. The volume of excavated soil shall be 227 000 m3, the total length of the diaphragm walls shall be 2 050 metres, the reinforced concrete constructions shall be of a volume of 60 000 m3.
